In short

After two decades of packing homes across Bradenton and Sarasota, the same handful of habits separate an easy unpack from a box of broken glasses. None of it is complicated, but all of it matters.

Use this as a quick reference. For the full method, see our how-to-pack guide.

Box by weight, not by size

Heavy items like books and dishes go in small boxes. Light bulky things like linens and pillows go in large ones. A big box full of books is a torn box waiting to happen.

Wrap fragiles one at a time

Each glass and plate gets its own wrap, then padding between layers. Plates ride on their edges, never stacked flat. Mark the box fragile on the top and the sides.

Pack a first-night box

Medications, chargers, toiletries, a change of clothes, toilet paper, and the coffee setup. Keep it with you, not on the truck, so your first night is livable.

Label every box

Destination room plus a one-line list of contents, on the top and one side. Color-coding by room makes the unload faster because the crew reads it from across the truck.

Keep these off the truck

Cash, jewelry, passports, documents, and anything flammable travel with you. Drain fuel from mowers and trimmers before they load.
